Starting with these
few first disciples the gospel has exploded over the earth. The resurrected
Christ has poured out His Spirit, causing God’s passion, that Jesus be
glorified, to become the mission and passion of His people.
To meditate/pray upon
John 15:26-27 “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from
the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify
about me. And you also must testify, for you have been with me
from the beginning”.
John 20:21-22 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father
has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them
and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit”.
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you
will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the
ends of the earth.” After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes,
and a cloud hid him from their sight.
The Holy Spirit’s passion for Jesus will become ours as we devote
ourselves to Him.
As we ‘remain in the vine’ we will bear fruit; this fruit, (as we saw in earlier studies):
Remain in
the vine through the word:
Remain in
Jesus through prayer:
Remain in Jesus’ love
Fruit, in part, will be a desire to make Jesus known and have the
privilege of seeing people come to know Him. Don’t get so focussed on the fruit
that you forget the roots! Don’t get so worked up over having the courage to
share your faith that you forget to be filled with the Holy Spirit who causes
your joy to overflow!
