Becoming a Christian is not only about forgiveness and eternal life. God’s
life in us is expressed in a life of worship.
To meditate/pray upon
John 17:2 “For you granted him
authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have
given him”.
Jeremiah 31:33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of
Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and
write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people…”
The Father and Son are glorified (worshiped, praised, obeyed etc.) by
those who are gifted with eternal life.
Our lives follow a similar pattern to that of the Apostle Paul (if not
quite so extreme!). Paul started off as someone who was opposed to God and God’s
people to the extent that He murdered Christians. “How is that like me?” you
may ask, but all of us are guilty of not loving God or His people and being
selfish in some measure. Like Paul, a Christian receives forgiveness for sin
but also a new nature with new inclinations for worship and service. That’s why
Paul wrote,
‘As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in
which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the
ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are
disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time,
gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts.
Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of
his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive
with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have
been saved’. (Ephesian 2:1-5)
The cross has reconciled us to God, and transformed our dead hearts to
become worshippers. Let’s give Him all the glory!
