Devotional 15/10/16 – John 16:15 It is right to give Him glory

The Spirit is working to stir our hearts to give Jesus all that we are; He is doing this because He is united in the purpose of the Father and the Son that God be our first love.
To meditate/pray upon
John 16:14-15 “He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”
Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”.
The disciples may have been wondering how Jesus has the right to direct the Spirit to bring Him glory. Such talk may have appeared blasphemous to these Jews. Jesus makes it clear that He, with the Father, rules all creation. As such He is not only right to demand worship, He is also obligated to demand it! It is the essence of righteousness (doing what is right) to give value to that which is most valuable. For Jesus to require our worship is to ask us to give value to the One who is most valuable; and this is at the heart of a righteous life.
Let’s hear the Spirit urging us to give our lives in bringing glory, to God.
Many of us can be tempted to seek and give glory to lesser things that Jesus; money, sex and power are the usual culprits. The only antidote to loving lesser things it the love of greater things or the greatest ‘thing’ – Christ; and it is this love that the Spirit is ready and willing to give to us!
Same storms has written about the crucial need to have our hearts captivated by the glory of God,

‘Change is the fruit of fascination with the glory of God as revealed in Scripture. “We change,” notes Piper, “because we have seen a superior beauty and worth and excellence. If you look into the face of Christ and then look into Sports Illustrated or Glamour and are not moved by the superior beauty and worth and excellence and desirability of Christ, then you are still hard and blind and futile in your thinking, You need to cry out,’ Open my eyes to see wonderful things out of your Word!’ And your life will show it. Where your treasure is- your desire, your delight, your beauty- there will your heart be also- and your evenings and your Saturdays and your money. We are changed by seeing the glory of God in the Word or God’.
