To meditate/pray upon
John 16:1 “All this I have told you so that you will not fall
away”.
John 15: 20-21 “Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater
than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they
obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you
this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me”.
Jesus is concerned that His disciples do not lose heart as He dies, rises
and ascends to heaven. He is also aware that they will face opposition for
which they need to be prepared or there is a danger of them falling away.
The world (temptations to love things other than Christ), the flesh
(residual sin in our hearts) and the devil are opposed our standing and flourishing
for Christ.
If we don’t listen to Jesus we will fall away in some measure. We may
not lose our faith completely, but we will be rendered less effective. We’ve
probably all had experience of going to a Christian conference, of giving
ourselves to our devotions in a fresh way and consequently of feeling our love
for Christ invigorated. We are never more fulfilled than when we are in a close
relationship with God. So why do we too regularly slacken in our devotion?
We need to listen, take to heart, so as not be shaken, or slacken in our
devotion, especially when we face suffering for Jesus.
