Surely we would all prefer the physical Jesus to be with us! But
Jesus says that it’s for our good that He has gone into heaven.
To meditate/pray upon
John 16:7 “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that
I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I
go, I will send him to you”.
Acts 4:31 ‘After they prayed, the place where they were meeting
was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of
God boldly’.
For the disciples, Jesus saying that He was about to go away would have
seemed like the worst possible news. How could this possibly have been good for
them?
Jesus going to the cross, rising from death and ascending to heaven was
good for all of us! We can now receive the forgiveness of sins, the gift of the
Holy Spirit, and the resultant great transformation.
The Spirit’s presence in ones life causes them to believe and live for
God even though they have not seen Him! They are empowered to serve and desire
to tell others about their great Saviour.
Look at the difference He made to the disciples as they went from the
cowardly to being courageous!
