Are you regularly hearing Jesus’ voice?
To meditate/pray upon
John 16:12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now
bear."
Psalm 119:105 ‘Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.’
Romans 12:2 ‘Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and
approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.’
Jesus makes a promise to the Apostles that He will continue to speak to
them, some of which would become our New Testament.
‘More than you can now
bear’, refers to their inability, until the Spirit came, to write scripture and
grasp the nature of Jesus and His work on the cross. Only after the
resurrection would they be able to comprehend and fully believe that the cross
was the fulfilment of what they saw in their temple sacrifices – Jesus was the,
‘Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world’ (John 1:29)
Jesus has now given us
His Spirit. He wants to continue to speak to us (through scripture primarily).
As we read the bible He will empower us (although it remains hard work) in this
and will continue to confirm and reinforce our faith in Him.
If we are not devoted
to God’s word, we will be weak and lack the conviction that God wants to give to
us so as to be able to stand and thrive.
