Devotional 12/10/16 – John 16:13 He will speak of the future

21:28 Posted by Matthew Beaney No comments

The Holy Spirit wants to tell us about the future, that’s exciting!
To meditate/pray upon
John 16:13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come’.
Revelation 20:10  And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever’.
Revelation 21:3-4 ‘And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”’
The Spirit has revealed the future in His word. Paul prays for the Ephesian church:
Ephesians 1:18 “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you…”
He wants them to be confident in the amazing future that God has for them. The bible, inspired by the Spirit paints a glorious picture of the triumph of Christ, the defeat of evil, and the glorification of the people of God.
Jesus promises his disciples that the Spirit will continue to speak and tell of the future. The disciples are about to see Jesus crucified; after the resurrection He will ascend into heaven and the church will continue to go through periods of persecution. How can the church remain faithful and joyful in this dark world? They need to hear what the spirit says about our glorious future and victory.

The Spirit wants you to live with a deep conviction of ‘what is to come’. Are you pessimistic or are you excited about Jesus’ reign and future victory?
