Devotional Wednesday 9/11/16 – John 17:13 “Full measure of joy” Part 3

At times of distraction and challenge, let’s respond to Jesus’ invitation to have joy by taking time to believe and rejoice in what He has said.
To meditate/pray upon
John 17:13 “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.”
Philippians 4:8 ‘Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.’
Jesus says that as we listen to what He has said, we will have his joy in us. This has particular reference to what He has been saying in this Upper Room Discourse Chapters 13 through 17, but also includes the whole bible, which is inspired by the Spirit.
Let’s take a moment to do this – listen to Jesus and thank God – using Jesus’ words in this section.
  • Read 13:1-17 – Thank Jesus that He has served and washed you on the cross
  • Read 14:1-4 – He has prepared heaven for you
  •  Read 14:15-31 – Jesus is risen and with us by the Spirit
  • Read 15:1-8 – Thank God for the fruit in your life and that He invites you to be even more so. Take a moment to re-express you desire to ‘remain in the vine’ and to continue to trust Christ no matter what
  • Read 15:18-25 – Choose again to thank Him that He is with us in our suffering, express your trust in whatever difficulties you are going through
  • Read 15:9-17 – Thank God for His unconditional love for you. Choose again to ‘remain in His love’ – receiving and giving His love
  • Read 17:13 – And His joy will be in you!
