It’s important to remember whom
we are worshipping. As you read the Bible, take time to note what it says about
God and then turn what you learn into worship and inform how you pray.
To meditate/pray upon
John 17:12 “While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.”
Maybe the disciples’ faith will be shaken by Judas’ betrayal and looming
suffering; Jesus preempts this by showing that He can and will protect them;
indeed everything is under God’s control and according to His word.
In our culture, names
have lost any real significance. We tend to name children because we like how
the name sounds. In the Bible, names have deep meaning, signifying character,
attributes and promise. The various names of God reveal His incomparable
greatness, beauty, justice and love.
When you think of God’s name, what do you think of? In the last study we
saw how God is called ‘Holy Father’
Here are a few examples of God’s names that you could use to worship and
pray:
Jesus – Jehovah saves/is salvation (Matt. 1:20-22)
Jehovah Jireh – the Lord will provide (Gen. 22:14)
Jehovah Rapha – the Lord that heals (Ex. 15:26)
Jehovah Nissi – the Lord our banner (Ex. 17:15)
Jehovah Shalom – the Lord our peace (Jud. 6:24)
Jehovah Ra-ah – the Lord our shepherd (Gen. 48:15)
Jehovah Tsiadkeni – the Lord our righteousness (Jer. 6:23)
Jehovah
Shammah – the Lord is present (Ez. 48:35)
Father – the most precious name for God. (Rom.
8:15-18)
