The foundation of all sanctification is the bible: it’s only on the
truth of scripture that we build our lives…
To meditate/pray upon
John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
John 3:21 “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light,
so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the
sight of God.”
2 Timothy 2:15 ‘Do your best to present yourself to God as one
approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles
the word of truth.’
Following on from yesterday’s devotion, how do we get
sanctified? How do we know what Jesus is like so as to aspire to this? How do
we know God’s opinion on anything? All sanctification is accomplished by the
Spirit inspired and empowered truth of the bible.
The foundation of all sanctification is the bible: it’s only on the
truth of scripture that we build our lives; indeed we must measure everything
else that we may feel God is wanting to change in us by scripture.
For example, we may go to a conference where we feel convicted to pray
more often. But how is one to go about that? Well a good place to start might
be the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:5-15. Here, Jesus gives us a good outline on
which to build our prayer habits and attitudes to avoid.
Or maybe we struggle with fear and anxiety; we face our days with a
pessimistic outlook. How can we deal with this? Maybe we could turn to
self-help teachers like Tony Robins. Or, better still, one could turn to God’s
word! Passages like Philippians 4:6-7 or Isaiah 41:10 could be employed to help
us.
How are you doing in
this?
Where does God want to change you at present? Make a brief study of the
bible on that subject, list a few key bible verses to memorise or pray through.
