The Holy Spirit works
through His word in order to develop us; it is therefore vital that we are making a habit of getting into the bible.
To meditate/pray upon
John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 ‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for
teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the
servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.’
Psalm 119:9-11 ‘How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By
living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me
stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not
sin against you.’
Sanctification is to become more godly and less sinful. This means that
one must read, understand and apply the bible, which is God’s revealed will for
all of us. What the bible says is truth; it is truth about who God is, who we
are and how to live.
We all have feelings, philosophies and methods that are of mixed value;
let’s make it a practice to search the scriptures on what is true.
Here are the five main ways of bible intake
The "Word Hand"
shows five very important methods of learning from the Bible.
i. Hearing (Romans 10:17) Hearing
the Word taught in setting like church or Community Group.
ii. Reading (Revelation 1:3) Reading
the Bible gives an overall picture of God's Word. Many people find it helpful
to use a daily reading program which takes them systematically through the
Bible.
iii. Studying (Acts 17:11) Studying
the Scriptures leads to personal discoveries of God's truths. Writing down
these discoveries helps you organize and remember them.
iv. Memorizing (Psalm 119:9, 11) Memorizing
God's Word is invaluable.
v. Meditating (Psalm 1:2, 3) Meditation
is the ‘thumb’ of the Word Hand, for it is used in conjunction with each of the
other methods. Only as you meditate on God's Word--thinking of its meaning and
application in your life--will you discover its transforming power at work
within you.
