Christians are united through seeing the glory of Christ as Lord and
Saviour. We need to recognise this true unity and strive to make it a
relational reality.
To meditate/pray upon
John 17:22 “I have given them the glory that you gave me, that
they may be one as we are one…”
Ephesians 4:3-6 ‘Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just
as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one
faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and
through all and in all.’
Jesus has given us his glory: in Jesus the Son of God, we see the
eternal, incarnate God dying for sin, rising again, ascended into heaven,
coming again, worthy of worship… Knowledge of this glory have been given to us,
it is the gift of God.
Only the truth of Jesus saves and unites a church. The unity of the church is
not principally, as some might emphasise, about putting aside differences and working together . The unity of the church is principally spiritual. The church
is the family of God, united by one Spirit through faith in Jesus alone. A
Christian is not united with anyone who is not in Christ!
As we read in Ephesians 4:3-6, although Christians are united in Christ,
we must also ‘make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit’. A church is
not only united but is kept united relationally through faith in Christ. Let’s
keep Jesus central!
How are you doing at this?
Do you recognise your unity with all true Christians that delight in the glory of Christ?
Are you working to make this spiritual unity a reality through church involvement and relational commitment?
