John 15:1 ‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
Friday: Remain in Jesus through the word
John 15:7 ‘If you remain in me
and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.’
How does one ‘remain’ in the vine? How can we get practical about this?
Abiding in Jesus is very much linked to letting His ‘words remain in you’. You only know about Jesus, about the gospel,
about what God is like, about His revealed will, about what we are studying
this week – that He is the vine... through the bible. What are you doing or
will you do to get into the bible?
You may already have a bible
study plan that is really working for you; if you don’t, let me encourage you
to write down what you would like to achieve in this area; maybe to read a
particular book over a week; to meditate on a bible verse each day; to memorise
something etc. Setting yourself clear goals is often very helpful.
A simple thing to do is to do
these bible studies each day, maybe expand on them by writing a few thoughts
down.
To meditate/pray upon
Psalm 1:1-3 ‘Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with
the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of
mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his
law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which
yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.’
