Jesus teaches us that if we are to remain in His love, one must obey His
commands.
Jesus commands us:
·
To believe - and go on believing - fully in Him as
Lord and Saviour
·
To listen and trust Him regarding His love for us
·
To obey Him in how to live
·
To abide in Him in continual trust
There are two groups of people that need to hear this differently:
Firstly, for Christians,
this is a loving warning; If a Christian fails to obey, it stands to
reason one will fail - whilst the Father continues to love us - will forfeit
the experience and assurance of God’s love.
Secondly,
non-Christians, For non-Christians, this is a warning that if one
fails to obey Jesus - turning to Him as Lord and Saviour - will face judgement
(15:6). It is also true to say that one who thinks him or herself a Christian
and yet bears no fruit in obedience is mistaken. A Christian will always bear a
measure of fruit in love and obedience!
What will be the result?
John 15:11 “I have
told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
Obedience leads to joy! No matter what the
world, the flesh, or the devil should say, obeying Jesus leads to joy!
To meditate/pray upon
John 15:10 “If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.”
John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commands.”
1 john 5:3 ‘In fact, this is love
for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,’
