‘I keep asking that the God of
our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom
and revelation, so that you may know him better.’(Ephesians 1:17)
Paul directs His prayers to ‘the
glorious Father’. This reminds us of our new relationship to Him as His
children; secondly, it reminds us of His love and duty of care for us; thirdly,
it speaks of His great and superior power. This is the one that we are praying
to.
Jesus when teaching His disciples
to pray taught them to address God,
"Our Father in heaven…"
This term doesn’t
mean that God is distant, ‘in heaven’; it reminds us of God’s sovereign rule
over all things. He is the ‘glorious Father’.
King David wrote,
‘The voice of the Lord is over
the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty
waters.’ (Ps.29:3)
In prayer we don’t just address
the ‘God of glory’ but the ‘Father all-glorious’. Our prayers have great power
because we have a great listening ear! When we pray according to His will He ‘Thunders’!
Meditate
Spend 5 minutes meditating on the
phrase, “you are my Father all-glorious”. He is the one with you and us as we
seek Him during this month of prayer and giving.
