'Grace
and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ'. (Ephesians 1:2)
Paul sets us a great example on
how to begin our praying:
- ‘Grace’- Paul reminds us of the ‘grace’ that we have from God- we have been saved by His great mercy, by faith in Christ, and not by any of our works.
- ‘Peace’- We have ‘peace’ with God. Because of Jesus' death on the cross, all of God’s justice for our sin has been dealt with. No matter how we feel, we have peace with God. (Read Romans 5:1)
- ‘From God’- It’s all ‘from God’- our salvation is because He has come to us in our hopeless state.
- 'Father'- God is now our ‘Father’- Paul encourages us to recognise and pray to God as our Father. (See Matthew 6:9)
- ‘The Lord Jesus Christ’- The ‘grace’ and ‘peace’ come to us from ‘the Lord Jesus Christ’: His death and resurrection have purchased our new status as reconciled and adopted by God- We can pray with confidence.
Prayer
- Take some time to thank God for all the elements that we have just looked at in this introductory statement.
- Secondly, let these truths create faith to pray for the building work and confidence that you can trust your gracious, loving Father as you give generously.
Great to have a firm grounding to pray from!
