This is the seventh post that I will be undertaking over the next 2 weeks in which we will be looking at everything (pretty much!) Jesus said about money in the gospels. In order to do this I will be putting up two posts each day. This is coinciding with a 2-week preaching series that we going through at Community Church Putney- Jesus On Giving.
Children
often know a spiritual principle that adults can forget- If you want
something, ask for it… again and again and again...
Most
children know that their parents love them and that they have all the
stuff.
Jesus on
money teaches us that when we have a need we are to ‘ask', then we
are to ‘seek' then we are to ‘knock’. Then God, our father, promises
to ‘give’, and promises that we will ‘find', and that the door of our
problem will ‘open’.
Jesus
taught,
“Ask and
it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be
opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks
finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
“Which
of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he
asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you
are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in
everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up
the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:7-12)
Jesus on
money wants to teach us to balance trust ( our perfect Heavenly Father knows
and will meet our needs) with perseverance (keep on asking for what you need).
Take a
moment to ask God to search you: what do you need? Write it down, date
it, keep asking and trusting.
Loving the Blogs - well done Matt. The last two been particularly challenging, learning to trust God and not to worry. We know He is faithful, but how often do we demonstrate that belief by coming to Him and asking? Let's be a people who demonstrate our trust in God by coming Him more and more.
